There are a lot of precision manufacturers out in Western Mass near Media Shower HQ. Recently we got to visit EBTEC, where they do some pretty cool stuff! Check out the tour LSHD Advertising edited with our footage.

Video Editing for Others February 6, 2011

I find myself doing more and more editing for others these days. It’s easy to shoot a lot of video, and people and business can do that on their own. But the production often gets stalled during editing.  It’s hard to find the couple hours of solitude you need to polish up a video.

That’s where Media Shower can help. We edit quickly and we edit well. And, thanks to the miracle of FTP, we can edit footage from anywhere!

Recently, we edited a Smith College Alumnae Association video they’d shot about an alum who is a professor and an author. I can’t wait to read her new book!

Here’s a quick video that I put together with 3BL Media for Canadian Business for Social Responsibility. The video features executive interviews that I shot at the 2010 CBSR conference, as well as Flipcam testimonials from conference participants.

I spent part of last week in Toronto with the 3BL Media crew at the Canadian Business Social Responsibility Summit. We got interviews with a group of incredible business leaders, from banks, insurers, mining and nonprofits.

Below is a video interview with the summit’s keynote speaker, Dr. Karl-Henrik Robert at The Natural Step. If you want to watch more, here’s a playlist with all the video from CBSR.

Can he be mine?

It was a hot, hot day in early May when the Media Shower crew set out to shoot dogs.

No, no – wait – I didn’t mean it like that! We set out to videotape dogs – five types of purebreds for video profiles on About.com. Along the way we had great adventures. We learned about dogs, and about what a crazy fun breed dog breeders are.

Overall, a great day, despite the weather and the fact that I didn’t get to bring home a puppy. And the videos didn’t turn out so badly, either!

Perspectives on Cause Marketing June 8, 2010

Cause marketing was never something that I’d give too much thought to before last week. Sure, I knew what it was and I recognized it as beneficial – after all, I’m more likely to buy something if it’s associated with a “cause” – but all in a very general sense.

Now, after spending a couple days at the Cause Marketing Forum in Chicago with 3BL Media, I see that it’s much more complex. We interviewed businesses executives about the intricacies of choosing a nonprofit partner, planning a campaign, measuring success and more.

I found the conversations interesting and educational. Maybe you will to – check out this playlist with all the CMF video interviews, or get started with this interview with David Hessekiel, President of the Cause Marketing Forum.

Wow. I am blown away by all of the incredible information we heard from the folks we interviewed at the CERES Conference last week in Boston. I was there with 3BL Media, and we talked to a lot of people – from the heads of major brands, to politicians and academics – about pressing issues in sustainability and corporate social responsibility.

I was so overwhelmed with work between taping the interviews, editing the footage and compressing and uploading the videos that I could hardly process all the insightful things I was hearing. That’s the nice thing about video, though: Now that I’m more relaxed, I can watch the videos and really think about what they’re saying.

An interview with Mindy Lubber, CERES president, is below. If you want to watch more, here’s a playlist with all the CERES videos.

The Saga of Building a Web Video Channel March 24, 2010

For the past few months Media Shower has been involved in the exciting project of working with 3BL Media to build a web tv channel devoted to news and information about corporate social responsibility.

It’s been amazing to see 3BL TV develop from a vague concept to an active, informative news channel. The site, which launched last month, has regularly updated videos from top CSR bloggers and thought leaders. Besides being featured on a dedicated web page with sources and video archives, 3BL TV videos are widely distributed on social media sites.

Producing regular content for a web series is challenging! We were already used to the daily grind of producing the CSR Minute, which has been running since last summer, but the two new shows – CSR Unscripted and the CSR Report – mean we need to get a lot more done. Thankfully, some eager bloggers have been willing to turn themselves into vloggers, and are contributing excellent interviews, reports and commentary.

I love 3BL TV for a lot of reasons (besides the obvious one, that they’re great people to work with), but especially for the eagerness with which they’ve embraced web video. From the beginning, they’ve known what a powerful communications tool it is for telling stories, spreading news and influencing opinions. And they haven’t let any technological obstacles stand in their way!

I can’t wait to see how 3BL TV develops. More videos are in the works, as you’d expect from an ambitious company that recognizes the untapped potential of web video. Here’s to the future!

The Positive Power of Video March 10, 2010

I’ve always known that a good movie can change the world.  Now I have proof.

The first film I made was about the challenge of trying to keep my family’s farm open and productive.  A local farmer saws the movie, rented the land on a long-term lease, and now the Vermont Land Trust is going to preserve it as open farmland forever.

No matter what else I do in my career, this will be my proudest achievement.  It’s a personal victory, because it means the place where I grew up – and that I love more than anywhere else in the world – will always be there.

It’s also a professional validation that will always remind me of just how much impact a video can make.  Tell the right story, show it to the right audience, and one video can change the world.

A new movie about conserving the farm and the growing sustainable farming movement is in production. Keep up with what’s happening on the Barber Farm Facebook page.

This is one of a series of social media videos produced for Garvey Communication Associates’ client FieldEddy Insurance.  They were fun to produce (except for the freezing temperatures outside), and show how much you can accomplish with a punchy script and cooperative employees!
